Peasenhall Pea Festival: A celebration of Peas
Sunday 17th July: 11.00am to 4.00pm
We are celebrating everything that is perfect about Peas at the 4th annual Peasenhall Peas Festival. This year promises to be even more fun and wackier than ever.
The Festival kicks off with the Pea Parade: This year we are having our first masked pea parade, with highlights also including the crowning of Princess Sweet Pea, as well as Queen Pea and Captain Pea Pod : There are also related awards for the best mask and best picture.
We are proud to again have been chosen to host the World Pea Podding Championship: This year we are expecting even more expert pea podders from all parts of the world to be competing for this coveted prize.
We also have the national fresh pea throwing finals and the regional pea shooting competitions where we foresee exciting contests as experienced pea experts fight to win these prestigious crowns. There is also the pea eating competition with chop sticks; ‘chop a pea’; flick a pea; a pea quiz and other weird and wonderful pea themed events.
The Pea Pod Arms will be back in action serving a range of drinks, as well as the pea and pork BBQ and other fantastic pea related offerings including a new ice cream especially created by Marybelle made of minted peas and local honey: Delicious! There are also pea cooking lessons and cooking competitions.
Apart from this we are pleased to announce the launch of our own new Peasenhall song especially written for the Festival by Graham Smith and Carls Country. There will also be a number of other musicians playing at the Festival.
Speaking today local pea person Coordinator Sally Tompkins said
‘Come and join us for a really local weird and wonderful few hours of pea madness, reflecting English eccentricity and originality at its best. We are rediscovering our Peasenhall pea roots and history and celebrating local Suffolk culture and history.
Again we are deliberately holding the pea festival on the same weekend as Latitude, not as an alternative, but as another event that reflects all that is special about this part of the world. Apart from all of our own local visitors and supporters it will also be a place for those performing and attending Latitude to take a break and relax, and revive themselves with some healthy pea input and Suffolk culture.’
